Revitalizing the United Nations from the Grassroots
In recognition of the pressing need for civil society and world leaders to organize a global response to the escalating existential threats to humanity and our planet, the Commission on Global Security, Justice and Governance (co-chaired by former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and former Nigerian Foreign Minister and UN Undersecretary-General for Political Affairs Ibrahim Gambari) has recommended the convening of a 2020 World Summit on Global Security, Justice and Governance.
"The time is now to examine how countries collectively respond to crisis. The world is undergoing major transformations at unprecedented speeds, putting enormous stress on our institutions of global governance.
The United Nations itself is the product of seven decades of cumulative institutional development. Is it working? Is it fit for purpose?"
